The USP of the new phone is that it supports Analog TV. This means that you can catch Live TV transmissions and news updates on the go. The Zen Z82 phone is available at a price of Rs. 4799 in India.
The spate of budget mobile phones never seem to stop. The Zen Z82 is priced astoundingly low for the features it offers. Budget mobile phone manufacturers seem to have their finger on the pulse of the Indian mobile phone market a lot better than the well-known names. Dual sim mobile phones are extremely popular in India with even manufacturers like Nokia, Samsung and LG finally launching them in India. Watching TV on a mobile is always a cool, high-tech experience. And then there is QWERTY which makes your phone look oh-so-professional. And the Zen Z82 offers all these.
Let us take a look at the features of the Zen Z82. It has a 2 mega pixel camera (enough for almost all purposes such as social networking), MP3 and MP4 players, FM with 3.5mm Jack, 4GB expandable memory and Bluetooth. The mobile comes with internal memory of 9 MB and can store 1000 contacts and 1000 SMS. Talk-time is a very respectable 5 hours, and you get 200 hours in standby mode.
Moreover, the Internet-savvy youth can access social networking sites such as Facebook, Nimbuzz and Yahoo over this phone. The Zen Z82 is Quad-Band capable and supports 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz frequencies.
This concept of TV on mobile isn’t new in India. A few months back, Samsung had launched TV on mobile but the Samsung phones supporting live TV were not QWERTY phones. Hence, the Zen Z82 becomes the first Indian QWERTY phone to ofer live TV viewing. We are not which TV channels would be available, however.
“Mobile handsets with Analog TV have rapidly gained the attention of consumers worldwide. With the launch of Z82, one can now watch Live Telecast and News updates on a QWERTY mobile for the first time in India,” claims Deepesh Gupta, MD, Zen Mobile.
However, the company has not specified (as far as we know) how one watches TV on the Zen Z82. Previously, Samsung Corby and Metro TV had streamed Live TV using CDMA based EVDO, which provides broadband like speed. Since The Zen Z82 is a GSM+GSM dual SIM phone, this option won’t work on it. We will have to wait and see what technology Zen will use to telecast TV on a GSM phone.
